Visitors to the Aztec area during the winter months will find themselves relatively close to several southern Colorado ski resorts but well away from the hustle and bustle of the resort towns. Within close proximity to Durango, home to Purgatory Resort and Telluride, visitors to the Aztec area will have no trouble finding excellent downhill skiing or snowboarding opportunity. Nordic Skiers will delight in the trail systems available to the east of Aztec in the Chama and Carson National Forest areas which provide miles of ungroomed Nordic Skiing trails where visitors can ski for miles without seeing another soul. Visitors are encouraged to check with the local Forest Service offices for more information.
