Aztec (pop 5,800), a small hamlet located along the banks of the Animas River, only 15 miles from the Colorado-New Mexico Border is the southern gateway town to the rocky mountains of southern Colorado. Visitors will find Aztec an excellent base for a number of adventures in the area, featuring both recreational opportunity and a historical glimpse into the past.
Aztec is located 22 miles on US-NM Highway 550 from Farmington to the south and within a couple hour drive from Durango, CO to the north.
