Alamogordo Population: 36,000
Tucked into the western slopes of the Sacramento Mountains, Alamogordo is a farm and ranch community with unique recreational opportunities right at its doorstep. Located just a few miles from White Sands National Monument and a gateway town to the fishing, hiking and skiing of the Sacramento Mountains, visitors to Alamogordo will find it a good base for explorations of the surrounding countryside.

Cloudcroft Population: 750
Situated within the heart of the Sacramento Mountains and the Lincoln National Forest, Cloudcroft is an alpine oasis amongst the deserts of southern New Mexico. Cloudcroft is a favorite destination for many outdoor recreationalists, offering good access to the mountains and forests that surround it which, in turn, are ripe with adventure. Hiking, mountain biking, fishing, downhill and cross country skiing and golf are only a few of the activities that Cloudcroft is well known for.

Lordsburg Population: 3,000
Lordsburg is the largest town located in the 'boot heel' section of New Mexico, the square shaped protrusion of the border that delves into the Sonoran Desert of Mexico. The Sonora is one of the least populated and desolate areas of the American southwest, offering its visitors a chance to enjoy true solitude in wild landscapes.

Silver City Population: 10,000
Silver City, tucked into the southern foothills of the Pinos Altos Mountains at 6000 feet in elevation, is located at a climate transition zone, where the lower elevation intense deserts of southwestern New Mexico give way to the higher elevation, cool alpine climes of the Gila National Forest. Spreading out to the north of town are the Mogollan Mountains, once a hotbed for silver mining and the inspiration for the founding of Silver City in the 19th century. Silver City still retains much of its former mining town feel with Victorian style facaded storefronts and quaint street systems.

Truth or Consequences Population: 7,000
Truth or Consequences may have one of the most odd names of any New Mexico town. Early in the 1950's, radio show host Ralph Edwards challenged his many listeners around the United States to rename their town Truth or Consequences in exchange for exposure to the radio market audience. Residents of 'Hot Springs, NM' quickly voted to change the town's name to Truth or Consequences and the rest is history.
