Tucked into the western slopes of the Sacramento Mountains, Alamogordo
(pop 29,000) is a farm and ranch community with unique recreational
opportunities right at its doorstep. Located just a few miles from
White Sands National Monument and a gateway town to the fishing,
hiking and skiing of the Sacramento Mountains, visitors to Alamogordo
will find it a good base for explorations of the surrounding
countryside. Accommodations in Alamogordo are affordable and
visitors will find the standard run of chain motels available here.
Dining in Alamogordo includes several ethnic choices, steak houses
with fast food franchises mixed in between. Alamogordo is best
accessed by car on US Highway 54 from El Paso, Texas to the south and
Carizozo to the north or via Las Cruces from the south on US Highway
