Santa Fe Pro Musica was established in 1980. Pro Musica?s mission is to bring together outstanding musicians to inspire and educate audiences of all ages through the performance of great music. Pro Musica performed for audiences in excess of 15,000 for the 2001-2002 Season. By performing repertoire that enriches and inspires audiences, Santa Fe Pro Musica contributes positively to the quality of life for all Northern New Mexicans. As a proponent of historically informed performance, Santa Fe Pro Musica performs great classical music from 1600 to the present, using the musical instruments for which the work was originally composed. The orchestra often performs without a conductor in order to establish the spontaneous quality of the music that was typical during the 17th and 18th centuries. Santa Fe Pro Musica collaborates regularly with the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society.
