Las Huertas Creek is stocked with fish, providing opportunities for leisurely fishing. At least two marked hiking trails, including the Cedro Trail, extend from the area into the scenic Sandia Mountains.

Sandia Peak Ski Area offers a tram to 10,678' Sandia Crest, which gives visitors a different vantage point from which to view the surrounding range and valleys. It provides a panoramic view of Albuquerque and the Rio Grande Valley below. Sunsets are spectacular, as are night views of the city lights and starry skies.
