So you find yourself in Spokane, Washington, and it’s raining. Or snowing. Or both. And you’re looking for ways to dodge the weather while simultaneously avoiding hotel-room cabin fever. What to do? Happily, there’s a pleasant selection of indoor entertainment options to consider within city limits. Hopefully by the time you’re done, the weather will be too, leaving enough fresh powder on the slopes to put downhill action on your downtime list.

In the meantime, we have suggestions. For an overall introduction to area history, culture and art, the place to start is the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture where the permanent collection includes fascinating Native American artifacts, fine art and an assortment of historic ephemera. If art is your thing, venture across the river to Jundt Art Museum on the Gonzaga University campus; there’s usually a contemporary exhibit on, with pieces from the permanent collection also on show. Otherwise, enjoy a tour of the historic Campbell House before meandering east to the renovated downtown area. Loathe to leave town without a look at the city’s natural landmark, Spokane Falls? The new Spokane Falls Skyride zips enclosed cabins right past the cascade from Riverfront Park past City Hall and the Monroe Street bridge. It’s a only a 15 minute ride but it’s a great way to get a bird’s eye view of rainbows and river ripples.

From here it’s an easy walk (properly bundled up) to downtown Spokane. Punctuate forays into local boutiques with wine tasting at one of the local wineries and you’ve got yourself the makings of a very well rounded day. Not yet ready to call it a night? Snag yourself tickets to hear the Spokane Symphony perform, or, in season, catch a NCAA game at Gonzaga when their well-ranked men’s basketball team, the Gonzaga Bulldogs, take on the competition. So never mind that wet weather in Spokane, Washington. We sure don’t.
