Outdoor fun is abundant in Luverne. The City of Luverne claims one of the finest park systems in the state. Throughout the city there are numerous pocket parks with playground equipment and picnic tables. Two larger parks are located on the East side of town, just across from the Rock River. All together Luverne has over sixty acres of land set aside for public recreation.

The Blue Mound Biking and Hiking Trail is a six-mile path that stretches from Main Street in downtown Luverne to the lower lake parking lot at Blue Mounds State Park. Along the path visitors can see open scenery and agricultural fields, tree-lined shade, and a beautiful view of the Blue Mound cliff line. A portion of the trail branches off and goes to the top of the 90-foot cliff line for a panoramic view of the community.

The Blue Mounds State Park is full of natural wonders. The park is home to a Sioux quartzite cliff, rising 100 feet from the plains, to a bison herd that grazes on the prairie, and to other wildlife, including a small population of coyotes and a stable deer population. Birdwatchers can catch glimpses of several western species as well as the birds of the prairie. A sea of prairie grasses and flowers sway in the wind while prickly pear cactus bloom in June and July. The park includes a main campground with 73 campsites as well as 13 walk-in campsites on location. Guest can also walk on many of the beautiful hiking paths or go swimming at the beach area. Other activities include nature walks, interpretive center tours, and buffalo visitations.

In addition to the large City Park beside the Rock River and the Touch the Sky Prairie, located northwest of Luverne, is a Northern Tallgrass Prairie National Wildlife Refuge.

GrandStay® Hotel & Suites of Luverne gives more than just a typical hotel room – stay in a spacious suite and be surrounded by warm and friendly staff. Bringing a new standard of style at an affordable price, guests feel at home.
