Description

Upper Gallinas is more of a picnic site than a campground, although it is acceptable for visitors to camp here. It is located on NM Hwy 152, approximately 37 miles east of Silver City. The site is easily accessed by most vehicles, in most weather conditions. The parking lot and picnic sites are lined with gravel, making this the perfect choice for visitors wanting to experience the outdoors without sacrificing comfort.

Easy access off NM Hwy. 152. Nice developed site.

The campground is situated fairly close to the highway. Visitors can expect to hear traffic.

A few general stores are located in the Mimbres Valley, approximately 17 miles west of the campground along NM Hwy 152. Food, phone, and gasoline are available.

Camping during busy weekends can be a little cramped in this area. Visitors can expect other campers nearby.

This is a great place for RVs due to it''s ease of access and graveled parking lot. Wide turn around areas make it easy to maneuver.

The Railroad Canyon Trailhead (trail no. 128) is located approximately three miles east of Lower Gallinas. Trails from this location lead up into the Aldo Leopold Wilderness.

Emory Pass Scenic Vista is located approximately 12 miles east of the campground and affords the visitor dramatic views of the middle Rio Grande Valley.

Upper Gallinas Campground is located along the Geronimo Trail Scenic Byway - a designated route that travels throughout southwestern New Mexico.

Wildlife abounds in this area of the Black Range. Visitors have the chance to see deer, elk, black bear, and many different species of birds.
