From Albuquerque, drive approximately 7 miles east on I-40 to Exit 175. Continue north on Highway 14 for another 7 miles to Highway 536. Go west on Highway 536 for approximately 9 miles to the picnic area.

Day hikes are available along many surrounding trails, including to La Madera Canyon Overlook.
Sandia Peak Ski Area offers a tram to 10,678' Sandia Crest, which gives visitors a different vantage point to see the surrounding range and valleys. It provides a panoramic view of Albuquerque and the Rio Grande Valley below. Sunsets are spectacular, as are night views of the city lights and starry skies.
