The Valle Grande, which at 176 square miles is one of the largest craters on earth formed when several volcanoes all collapsed at once creating one huge caldera, dominates the Jemez Mountains and is a haven for biking. Visitors will find the Quemazon Trail, Guage Ridge Trail, and the Cochiti Canyon area are just a few of the impressive options in this area.

Additionally, there are enough excellent biking trails in the non-wilderness areas of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the northeast of Santa Fe to keep avid bikers busy for days. There are several guide & outfitter services that offer day and multi-day bike tours around the Santa Fe area, as well as several bike shops in town that offer rentals and trail advice.
