Raton (pop 7,400) is a jewel of a New Mexican town, nestled at an
elevation of 6600 feet at the foot of the Rocky Mountains on the
Colorado/New Mexico border. Most noted for its proximity to Raton
Pass, which at 7834 feet was one of the most difficult portions of the
historic Santa Fe Trail, the town of Raton is a small mountain outpost
that is a dramatic contrast from other areas of northeastern New
Mexico. Raton offers Outdoor enthusiasts a good variety of year-round
recreational activities to fill their days. Visitors will find a
good variety of accommodations in Raton. There are also good dining
options in Raton, with a variety of options ranging from cheap

Raton is best accessed from Colorado to the north or Santa Fe from
