Description

Turn south onto FR540 for 4.3 miles to Klondike Gap Rd, CR412A/FR69. Turn east on to CR412A/FR69 to FR69A 2.5 miles. Turn southeast for three miles on FR69A to FR201 and continue on FR201 to the Dark Canyon Lookout Tower.

Park at the Dark Canyon Lookout Tower if you do not have an ATV, motorcycle, or 4-wheel drive high clearance vehicle. Travel on FR201 is extremely rough and slow. ATV use is recommended.

Continue past the Lookout Tower on FR201 for 1.6 miles to the Ussery Trail Road, FR3000; second turn on the right past the Lookout Tower. FR3000 is located on top of the Pacific Slope Ridge. Turn south onto FR3000 and proceed for 2.7 miles to where the road dead ends at a fence. Park vehicles and ATVs at the fence.

Hike through the gate located east of the parking area. Follow the rock cairns and single-track trail, T203, for .5 miles to the Guadalupe District boundary.

Currently, there is not a posted boundary sign. The boundary is marked by a tall, dead ponderosa pine tree next to the trail. After this point, it is private land. Do not proceed onto private land. Enjoy the steep rugged cliffs of Gunsight Canyon.

The Ussery Trail is rocky, but is a relatively easy hike. The challenging part is getting to the Trail on FR201 & 3000.
