Description
The Sandy Gorge of the Sandy River swells with winter rainfall and spring runoff from Mt. Hood, allowing for boatable flows from late fall to late spring. The Sandy Gorge is a swift and technical piece of water, with large drops and tight boulder gardens populating the run.
Upland terraces sit interspersed with grasslands sit atop the gorge formed of conglomerated volcanic ash, in some places towering 100’ above the river surface. The shady nature of the gorge allows for lush greenery to grow along its walls. Previous whitewater experience is suggested prior to running the Sandy Gorge. Single day trips are available.
