Description

The hike up to Glorieta Baldy is strenuous, but offers a number of unique attractions. A detailed trail description is available at the entrance gate to the conference center as the directions to the parking area. From the trailhead, a grassy road follows a stream up the canyon with two turnoffs encountered during the first mile. Follow the signs that the conference center has provided indicating the route to the trail. After leaving the drainage, the trail climbs to a rocky area where the route is not clear. The trail drops to a small drainage to the left and starts climbing through the forest. It does not continue through the boulder field. The trail eventually gains the ridge between Ruiz and Glorieta Canyons.

Much of this trail follows an old road. In the last mile, the trail becomes considerably steeper and narrower, switching up the southwest slope on the mountain. Secondary trails have been created shortcutting these switchbacks, and visitors can note the erosion damage that these cause. Just before the summit, a junction with Baldy Trail 175 is encountered. Continue up the hill to the top. Please do not climb the fire tower.
