Sheridan, Wyoming Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

Sheridan is a small town with a colorful past. Sheridan has been a dude ranch hub, a celebrity playground, and a flour milling town that surpassed all others in Wyoming. Today, it's the perfect home base for anyone exploring the Big Horn Mountains and it preserves its history with pride.

Sheridan's first bank is the Mandel Cabin, an unassumingly ancient building surrounded by a park. Its most famous inn used to be its most famous flour mill. Trail End Historic Site is a massive, gorgeously furnished mansion that appears much as it did at the turn of the 20th century. Sheridan is that curious mix of past and present. For every museum piece like Trail End or sacred, largely untouched sites like the Medicine Wheel, there's a bit of history that is now an integral part of today. An old fort may become a hospital while retaining its architectural beauty. Main Street is lined with buildings that have stood for over a hundred years and today serve as book or clothing stores, or hotels.

After exploring Sheridan and its storied history, then it's time to strike out into the beautiful Big Horn Mountains and the beautiful Big Horn National Forest. Hiking, biking, snowmobile and cross-country trails criss-cross the peaks and valleys of this range and this is a natural beauty that hasn't been crowded by tourists.

Sheridan is near I-90 in the northern end of Wyoming. It's 149 miles north of Casper, Wyoming and 130 miles southeast of Billings, Montana.
