Las Cruces Population: 75,000
Las Cruces is the largest city in southwestern New Mexico and has been a popular resting stop along traditional trade routes for centuries. Las Cruces is located in the Mesilla Valley, close to the Rio Grande River and is framed dramatically by the Organ Mountains to its east, allowing for a variety of recreational adventures within a short drive of town. Las Cruces prides itself in the number of dining establishments that exist within its borders, over 100, and visitors will have little trouble finding good Mexican and New Mexican cuisine.

Silver City Population: 10,000
Silver City, tucked into the southern foothills of the Pinos Altos Mountains at 6000 feet in elevation, is located at a climate transition zone, where the lower elevation intense deserts of southwestern New Mexico give way to the higher elevation, cool alpine climes of the Gila National Forest. Spreading out to the north of town are the Mogollan Mountains, once a hotbed for silver mining and the inspiration for the founding of Silver City in the 19th century. Silver City still retains much of its former mining town feel with Victorian style facaded storefronts and quaint street systems.

Socorro Population: 8,800
Socorro, one of the oldest towns in New Mexico, is located at the junctions of I-25 and NM Highway 60 west and is often bypassed by hurried travelers as a mere pit stop as they speed along I-25 between Albuquerque and Las Cruces. Socorro, however, is within a short drive of some excellent recreational opportunities and interesting attractions that are sure to please most outdoor oriented visitors.
