Taos - Ski Guides / Rentals
Taos is perhaps best known amongst recreational circles as the home to Taos Ski Valley Resort, the largest and most difficult ski resort in New Mexico, offering some of the best terrain and snow conditions in the United States. Limited to skiers only (sorry snowboarders), Taos Ski Resort features 1000 acres of terrain that is over 50% expert in difficulty served by 12 lifts. Located at the head of the terminal Taos Canyon with a summit elevation of just under 12,000 feet, Taos Ski Valley receives hundreds of inches of pristine powder on an annual basis, a combination that is sure to please any hard core skier. Equipment rentals, dining and accommodations are all available on slope at Taos Ski Valley, though there are 'resort price tags' attached to these services so for those on a budget, the town of Taos can be a more piggy bank friendly option. For visitors looking to stretch their legs or just work up a good sweat, Nordic Skiing is a popular activity around the Taos area and miles of ungroomed trails are available for exploration in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains Range. Rentals for Nordic equipment are available in town in Taos and more information on trail systems can be found at the Forest Service office in Taos. Visitors planning a trip to Taos for skiing should check with Taos Ski Valley directly for season dates, rates and additional information. Ski and snowboard rentals in the Taos area are offered by the outfitters listed below. Some companies also offer backcountry ski and snowboard trips. Click on any company name for more information.
