Socorro (pop 9000), one of the oldest towns in New Mexico, is located at the junctions of I-25 and NM Highway 60 west and is often bypassed by hurried travelers as a mere pit stop as they speed along I-25 between Albuquerque and Las Cruces. Socorro, however, is within a short drive of some excellent recreational opportunities and interesting attractions that are sure to please most outdoor oriented visitors. World class bouldering and climbing, hiking amongst unique desert geology, and checking out the bizarre and impressive technological sites of this part of New Mexico can all be accessed easily within a short drive of Socorro's town center.

Visitors will find a good selection of low to moderately priced accommodation options in Socorro as well as a variety of dining options, including excellent Mexican choices, to satisfy hungry and adventure tired travelers.
