Ruidoso is surrounded by the White Mountain Range and sits at the heart of the Lincoln National Forest. The Ruidoso area offers hundreds of miles of hiking trails that range in difficulty from easy to difficult, allowing for recreationalists of all abilities to find a rewarding hike to suit their taste. Located between Sierra Blanca Peak towering to just over 12,000 feet and Nogal Peak, the White Mountains Wilderness protects 48,000 acres of the Lincoln National Forest and its forested eastern flanks and rocky western slope are extremely popular with day hikers and backpackers alike.
