Acoma Pueblo

Acoma Pueblo is the oldest continually inhabited community in the United States. It was built atop a 367-foot mesa for defensive reasons around the 12th century. The Pueblo is also known as "Sky City" and visitors can quickly understand why as they gaze upon the vast New Mexico landscape from this high desert perch.

Approximately 3,000 people live in the area, with many families living on the mesa itself year-round. Acoma artisans are famous for their incredibly thin and strong pottery, so thin it rings like a bell. The pueblo is open to visitors through a guided tour and throughout the year there are several feasts and celebrations open to observers.
